About The Artist
Originally from West Sussex, England, Amber studied at the prestigious City and Guilds of London Art School. There, she completed a Fine Art Foundation course before receiving her BA in Fashion Promotion and Illustration, at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design.
In 1999 she moved to San Francisco, where she worked as the Director of Runway at Stars Model Management for 18 years. Although Amber had withdrawn from her fine art practice, she completed a small number of commissioned portraits as well as illustrations for her upcoming book, An Agent’s Guide To Modeling.
It was the need to express her views on the current political climate that brought Amber back into the studio full-time, creating the “#45 Series”. Since the completion of this work, she has discovered many other subjects she would like to address through her art.
Amber’s preferred media are pencil and charcoal on paper or acrylics on canvas. Influenced by old masters such as Caravaggio, David, and Rembrandt, with their use of strong contrasts between light and dark, or “chiaroscuro”; a technique Amber adopts in her own paintings, particularly in portraits. However, she is currently embarking on the exploration and experimentation of modernism, use of color, mixed media and sculpture.
